Safari Tour Highlights

Botswana has the greatest collection of elephants in all of Africa. You can see them – along with giraffes, zebras and hippos – when you walk in the bush, or drive slowly by in a jeep. The Okavango Delta is flooded in winter, so animals flock there – great for close up observation by boat. You ride in mokoro dugout canoes two passengers with one guide. And you can combine your safari with a visit to the world’s largest waterfalls in Zambia, just a short distance away…

Explore these and more with your expert personal guide, available 24/7 on your schedule!

Tips

  • The best time to go is July to September, when you will find delightfully warm days and cool nights. We found August perfect: usually you will not encounter snakes or mosquitoes at that time, but taking anti-malarial precautions is wise.
  • The hardest parts of this trip are the lengthy flights, which can be discouraging for some prospective travelers. You might have to endure over 37 hours of travel from North America, including long waits in airports in Johannesburg and London. Take something to read; watch the videos. Get up to exercise. Botswana is worth it!
  • Island-Safari made all of our travel arrangements without a hitch. But you can find many other good agencies on the web like African Gateway based in Cape Town. You can also book tours at hotels or travel agencies once you arrive in Kasane, Maun, or Livingstone.
  • Take dark clothes for bush treks. Bright colors, light blue, and even white might upset the wild animals. Do not wear red.
  • Take more digital photo memory cards than you think you will need, and preferably a zoom lens at least up to 300 mm. Animals might be too far away (or too close) so a zoom is important. For good results, you also need a camera with no shutter lag to catch fast-moving animals.

This is a great e-book to bring on a African Safari. I used it to check on names of animals and birds, and look at what I might expect on the next days excursion.

Great information and photos for anyone going on safari in Botswana. Brief but concise, lovely photos. I recommend it for anyone who is planning to safari in Botswana or who would just love to.

"Exciting, a whole new concept"
Around The World Travel Radio

"Even though I am a local, I thoroughly enjoyed visiting and learning more about the history of the landmarks. The author's interest in the area comes through in his engaging style of writing. Being able to complete the tour at my own pace made it even
more enjoyable."
Flora Savitzky (Researcher)

"When the conference ended, I stayed in town on my own and used T4M's self-guided tour to decide which things in town I wanted to visit and what to see/do there. The guide was right every step of the way. Bottom line, this guide helped me make the most of my time in town."
