Tips

  • The wet season in South Florida is from June through November. During these months, afternoon storms - often heavy ones - are common. If you visit during these months, plan outdoor activities for earlier in the day.
  • From 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on the first Sunday of every month, you can enjoy free music from top local artists during 'Jazz Brunch in the Park' at Himmarshee and 5thAvenue, across from the Museum of Discovery and Science in Ft. Lauderdale's Arts District. Locals arrive early to grab the best spots to stretch out and unload their coolers.
  • Consider carefully before renting a car. If you plan to stay within the areas covered in this tour, you'll do better using taxis (land and water,) the free shuttles, and your feet. Construction, congestion, and special events can make driving and parking challenging at times.
  • Getting your bearings, however, is easy. The ocean is east. Avenues run north/south (with Andrews Avenue dividing 'east' from 'west',) while streets run east/west. Do note though that most major streets and avenues have 2 - sometimes even 3 - names. The street you are looking for may have an alias! (2nd Street, for example, becomes Himmarshee as you head west.)
  • Put yourself on the Walk of Fame! You may never have your footprints outside of Grauman's Chinese Theatre, but you can buy a brick with your name or another's on it, to be placed on the brick walk fronting the New River. Your tax-deductible donation benefits the Riverwalk Trust. Immortalize your trip; buy a brick!

"Exciting, a whole new concept"
Around The World Travel Radio

"Even though I am a local, I thoroughly enjoyed visiting and learning more about the history of the landmarks. The author's interest in the area comes through in his engaging style of writing. Being able to complete the tour at my own pace made it even
more enjoyable."
Flora Savitzky (Researcher)

"When the conference ended, I stayed in town on my own and used T4M's self-guided tour to decide which things in town I wanted to visit and what to see/do there. The guide was right every step of the way. Bottom line, this guide helped me make the most of my time in town."
