The first thing visitors notice is how green the city is, with lots of grand old trees and vibrantly flowering shrubs when they tour Raleigh, even on the interstate highways you feel like you’re in the country because the buildings are discreetly tucked behind lush foliage. Welcome to my home – the state capital, gateway to Research Triangle Park, and home of technology and pharmaceutical companies. Raleigh is spread out over a large area and has been growing rapidly for decades, so it isn’t easy to find your way around. That’s why you need to follow me! This tour focuses on the downtown center, but there are many other attractions in the area that are worthwhile. As a long-time resident of Raleigh, it is my pleasure to take you to a few of my favorite places. Explore these and more with your expert personal guide, available 24/7 on your schedule!

Tips

  • Raleigh is spread out and has no downtown expressway. The two interstate loops around the city can be clogged at rush hour, so travel times can vary widely depending upon the traffic.
  • Don't waste time trying to find free on-street parking downtown. Use one of the dozen or so parking garages that are cheap compared to other cities.
  • Raleigh is pretty any time of year, but spring and fall are the seasons when you will find the most color. The winters are mild, but the summers are hot and humid.
  • The Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau has one of several useful websites to orient yourself prior to your visit. Call them for more specific information, group tours, a printed brochure, or special interest topics.
  • Don't rush through the tour. Pace yourself and stop to rest, get coffee, or just chat with the friendly folks you may see. If you don't see everything, so what? Come back on another day, or maybe even stay for a week!

"Exciting, a whole new concept"
Around The World Travel Radio

"Even though I am a local, I thoroughly enjoyed visiting and learning more about the history of the landmarks. The author's interest in the area comes through in his engaging style of writing. Being able to complete the tour at my own pace made it even
more enjoyable."
Flora Savitzky (Researcher)

"When the conference ended, I stayed in town on my own and used T4M's self-guided tour to decide which things in town I wanted to visit and what to see/do there. The guide was right every step of the way. Bottom line, this guide helped me make the most of my time in town."
